General Services Administration awards new lease for Army Corps of Engineers in Baltimore’s Central Business District
PHILADELPHIA – The General Services Administration (GSA) Mid-Atlantic Region has awarded a new 15-year lease for relocation of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District Headquarters. The lease is a reflection of GSA’s ongoing efforts to leverage the buying and leasing power of the federal government to generate economic development in communities throughout the country.
Joanna Rosato, Regional Commissioner of GSA’s Public Buildings Service in the Mid-Atlantic Region said, “GSA continues to find opportunities to save taxpayer dollars and align building, leasing, and relocation plans with economic development in local communities. This lease represents a space reduction of approximately 20 percent for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and it supports our economic catalyst initiative.”
More than 600 USACE employees will relocate from their current leased space at the City Crescent Building, located at 10 S. Howard St., which has served as the District’s headquarters since 1993. The relocation is scheduled for early 2018 and coincides with the expiration of the existing lease. The 15-year (10-year firm) lease was contracted to BE, 2&10 LLC for 143,000 square feet of space at 2 Hopkins Plaza,
“Over the past two years, the Corps’ project development team worked closely with GSA to define our organizational requirements and identify ways to operate more efficiently in a smaller footprint,” said Robin Sakin, a Baltimore District realty specialist. “We think that the space at 2 Hopkins Plaza will be a perfect fit, and we’re looking forward to the next phase of creating a design that will update and modernize our workspace.”
